Children in the sun but with glasses
Babies with sunglasses to avoid eye injuries
There is no doubt that children are the age group that most enjoys the outdoors and the sun during the holidays. While there is sun they are playing all the time, swimming, running, through the patio, the pool, and wherever they are allowed. Yesterday, in an amusement park, the protective cream for children’s skin was the protagonist. It seems that many parents are already aware of the need to protect the skin of their children.
Sunglasses for babies
What little is talked about is the serious problems that the sun can cause to the eyes and the vision of children. That is why the Spanish Association of Pediatrics (AEP), again insists on the use of approved sunglasses for children, to avoid serious problems such as loss of long-term vision.
In the same way that the sun can cause burns on the skin, it can also affect the children’s ocular surface, leading to some complications such as burns, cataracts and eye wear, which can lead to vision loss. Remember that the level of ultraviolet radiation during the summer months is up to three times higher than during the winter. To avoid injury and protect children from the harmful effects of the sun’s rays, pediatricians recommend the use of sunglasses.
The aesthetics, that is, the model and the color, and even the price, are not so important factors when choosing a pair of glasses. It is about protecting the vision of children, and that depends only on the quality of the lenses, glasses and the filter they carry. Ideally, it should be between 99 and 100% against UVA and UVB rays. Apart from the glasses, the use of a cap with a visor is also recommended, even for cloudy days, as preventive measures. And finally, it should be remembered that the injuries caused by the sun are cumulative, which causes the tissues to retain the doses of sunlight on the skin and in the eyes.
